Volunteer Opportunities and Job Descriptions (At The Bridge Warehouse)
Sorting new shipments of food
We get in food through Second Harvest and it needs to be sorted, boxed, and loaded onto the truck. We have a variety of food such as: Bread, produce, desserts, drinks, and miscellaneous items that need to be gone through before we deliver it to under the Bridge.
Bagging food and snacks for the Bridge to Kids Program
We partner with local public schools to assist children in food packs for the weekend. We average 80 bags a week during the school year and we pack each bag so that it will last a child through the weekend.
Cleaning chairs and washing tables
We like to keep our chairs and tables clean and fresh for the homeless. So we clean every chair once a week. It helps in removing dirt, food, and drink that may have been spilled that night during the service.
Bagging personal care items/toiletry
We make up toiletry bags every week for the homeless. So that they can keep up with their personal hygiene we give them items such as: Travel sized shampoo, soap, deodorant, razors, tooth brushes, and toothpaste.
Sorting clothes
Every week we take 25 tubs of clothing under the Bridge. We need help sorting shirts and pants and also the different sizes need to be sorted and put in the appropriate tubs.
Loading trucks
We load all the food, toiletry items, clothing, and equipment onto our trucks to be transported to The Bridge service.
Miscellaneous Cleaning
In order to keep the warehouse maintained we do weekly cleaning such as: sweeping, mopping, dishes, washing windows, and cleaning bathrooms.
Silverware
On average, we serve 350 – 500 hot meals every Tuesday night. In order to make it convenient we individually wrap each fork in a napkin and place them in boxes to take under the Bridge to be passed out for their meal.
Other jobs as needed
There are always various jobs that will come up throughout the week, having your help to accomplish them is a huge blessing.
